PostSubject: Radio Trac Phone Telefonica   Sat Oct 04, 2008 7:01 pm

Hi everyone, hope you are all well

Well finally, (drum roll please) Telefonica installed our phone after many, many, many, 'we will be there within 25 days'. Then 25 days came and went and again I was told' be patient madam'.

Now I have a fixed line phone, I am at a loss as to what I can achieve with regards to the Internet. Does anyone know anything about radio-phones or have Internet via a radio phone?

Hi Karen
I have answered your query on the other forum - well as best an answer as I can come up with. It is a shame you are unable to get Iberbanda, as that is what we have and the service is excellent. We have broadband ADSL and it is really fast - we run 3 PC's on ours. all you need to be able to see is either the transmitter at the top of Mt Jabalcon or the local transmitter at Huescar (I believe)
Good luck

I have had a TRAC phone for three years now and the internet is great. However, you must have a USB to seriel port connection. If you look on the unit underneath, you will see a plave for the connection. You can buy the software and install it yourself. In addition I have a package called ONSPEED which is best bought over the net with a disc as one of the problems with the TRAC phones is that a big download can take hours. I also use a program called DAP download for speeding up and compressing the file I want to download. I also changed the connection speed to 230. Pages turn over ok and I do not often loos the connection. Hope this helps Smile Smile

Hi DIGGERS

That's very encouraging, you must be
the only other person who I have found who actually has one and can
therefore speak from actual experience.

Thanks Again

Forgot to ask two key questions

1)
Where do you get the software from?

2) Who do you
use as you internet service provider?

Hi All

I thought I would update this thread with regards to the internet and radio trac phone. I feel it might help anyone else who might find themselves in a similar situation.

Firstly to say when we came to Spain I anticipated that no matter where you lived you would have a land line and therefore access to the internet. I soon discovered if you lived anywhere outside of a town you have to find an alternative. For most people this would be the likes of Iberbanda. Not everyone however can have Iberbanda or the equivalent. You have to have a direct line with the suppliers aerial, we do not. Then there are satellite phones but installation are very high and monthly fees are also very high.

So back to the trac phone. This works on radio waves and therefore everyone who lives in a rural aerial should be able to have one..... It seems very few people have one and there is very little info about them. We did have to chivvy telefonica along a bit to get it.

On another forum someone has put some more pieces together, along with the helpful info from Digger. But for us the joy is we should be able to access the internet using our trac phone.

We have found we will also need a V92Modum. Help from another forum has identified is one problem is our internal mod-um. With the dial up to the trac phone you need to run at it with great speed to connect, bounce The V92 has The Quick Connect (QC) feature which cuts the modem negotiation or handshake time by up to 50% so you can dial-in faster. Helping to gain that all important connection.
(Drum roll please)

Telefonica (I am informed by two people who have a trac phone) offer packages for unlimited minutes for 21 euros. Not that their telephone support line know this!!!! And as digger said ONSPEED will help with uploads and downloads.

Now to try and get this package from Telefonica. Watch this space. bounce
